Lottery Singapore

Lottery Singapore is the only legal lottery operator in Singapore. It operates three lotteries: Toto, 4D, and Singapore Sweep. It also manages a network of more than 300 outlets across the island that facilitate ticket purchases and payment of prizes.

Toto, which was formally known as Toto Lotto (TOTO), is one of the most popular games in Singapore. Players choose six numbers from 1 to 49 and win money if any of those numbers match the winning numbers drawn. The odds of winning the jackpot are one in 13,983,816.

In the last financial year, gamblers in Singapore spent a record amount on sports and lotteries. The Tote Board reported SGD9.2 billion, a 43% increase over the previous year’s total.

According to the data set, lottery participants are more likely to be male, younger than their non-player counterparts, and less educated than non-players. They also have lower annual household incomes and a higher likelihood of unemployment than non-players.

In addition, winning a lottery ticket improves household members’ self-reported health status and increases the probability of reporting excellent, very good or good health. However, these benefits are small and not statistically significant. This is because naive OLS estimates of the association between lottery wins and health are overemphasizing the impact of unearned income on overall health.
